A Patient Care Technician Registry position involves assisting patients with their daily needs, providing basic medical care, and ensuring a safe and clean environment. This role requires flexibility, as Registry PCTs are often called in on short notice to fill shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility.
- Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates.
- Assist with patient positioning, turning, and transferring to prevent bedsores and maintain comfort.
- Perform basic wound care, including cleaning and dressing wounds.
- Monitor and document patient condition and report any changes to the nursing staff.
- Operate and maintain medical equipment, such as blood glucose monitors and oxygen delivery systems.
- Assist in setting up and preparing medical equipment for procedures and treatments.
- Ensure patient rooms and common areas are clean, orderly, and safe.
- Follow infection control protocols and assist with the disinfection of medical equipment and patient care areas.
- Accurately document patient care activities, observations, and changes in condition.
- Maintain clear and concise records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a Patient Care Technician training program or equivalent healthcare certification.
- Certification:
- Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Patient Care Technician (PCT) is often required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital or long-term care facility, is preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems is a plus.
