Food and food service delivery drivers are essential to the nation’s food supply chain. In this role, you will ensure that customer products are delivered safely and on time while serving as the face of our company, building lasting relationships with our customers.

The Driver Trainee position is an entry-level role designed to train and develop skills in hauling freight and operating tractor-trailers. As a Driver Trainee, you will assist driver trainers with deliveries and routes while gaining valuable on-the-job experience. This role requires professional communication with customers, vendors, and co-workers to ensure questions are answered promptly and accurately. You’ll be a key part of the team, contributing to the department’s and company’s success.

Position Details:

  • Pay Rate: $28.00/hour followed by component-based pay
  • Work Schedule: No weekends
  • Guaranteed Weekly Rate after training
  • License Requirement: Must have a Class A CDL

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Complete Training Programs: Successfully finish the Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program.
  • Assist with Deliveries: Ride along with and assist driver trainers in executing deliveries.
  • Safety Checks: Perform all required safety inspections on the tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations, ensuring they meet company safety standards.
  • Follow Regulations: Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
  • Freight Management: Inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight, and perform damage control checks.
  • Paperwork: Accurately complete all necessary paperwork related to freight.
  • Product Delivery: Drive to and deliver customer orders according to a set delivery schedule.
  • Unloading: Unload products and transport them to designated customer storage areas.
  • Customer Interaction: Verify delivery with customers, obtain signatures, and handle payments when required.
  • Returns and Clean-Up: Manage customer returns and maintain cleanliness in the tractor, loading dock, and trailers.
  • Log Hours: Keep a daily record of hours of service, complying with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • General Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent
  • License: Valid CDL A
  • Age: Must be at least 21 years old
  • Driving Record: Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years
  • Compliance: Pass post-offer drug test, criminal background check, and road test
  • Health Requirements: Valid DOT Health Card or the ability to obtain one
  • Physical Requirements: Able to lift and move product cases/freight ranging from 10-35 pounds, and up to 60-90 pounds using a two-wheeler, lift gate, or other equipment
  • Internal Candidates: 1 year of service in good standing, completion of the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, and ability to obtain a CDL Permit and DOT Health Card
