The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related systems in a variety of vehicles and equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of diesel engines, mechanical systems, and diagnostic tools. The Diesel Mechanic ensures that all repairs are completed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency, minimizing downtime and ensuring the reliable operation of the fleet.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance on diesel engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
- Repair or replace defective or worn parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and exhaust systems.
- Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all personnel.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working condition.
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs, maintenance, and inspections performed.
- Complete work orders, detailing the work performed, parts used, and any additional recommendations for future maintenance.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest tools, technology, and techniques for diesel engine repair and maintenance.
- Ensure that all diagnostic equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in diesel mechanics is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or similar role.
- Extensive knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, and related components.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, software, and repair techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required depending on the position.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy parts and equipment (up to [weight] pounds/kilograms).
- Ability to work in various positions, including standing, bending, and kneeling, for extended periods.
