Middle School Science Teacher

The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering science education to students in grades 6-8, covering topics such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science. The teacher designs and implements interactive lessons, assesses student progress, and fosters a supportive and inquiry-based learning environment that encourages students to explore scientific concepts and develop a passion for science.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement science lesson plans that align with state and district curriculum standards, covering a range of topics including life sciences, physical sciences, earth and space sciences, and environmental science.
• Use a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on experiments, group activities, demonstrations, and technology integration, to engage students and accommodate different learning styles.
• Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Implement classroom rules and procedures to manage student behavior effectively and ensure a safe, supportive learning space.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to help them understand their progress and areas for improvement.
• Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and other relevant data.
• Provide individualized support to students who need additional help, including those with learning disabilities, English language learners, and gifted students.
• Foster the social and emotional development of students by teaching and modeling appropriate behavior, empathy, and respect for others.
• Encourage positive peer relationships and promote a sense of community within the classroom.
• Collaborate with other teachers, support staff, and administrators to plan and coordinate curriculum, share resources, and develop school-wide initiatives.
• Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with a concentration in Science, or a related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science).
  • Teaching certification or licensure for middle school science education in the state of practice.
• Experience:
  • Previous teaching experience in middle school science is preferred, though entry-level positions may be available for newly certified teachers.
  • Experience conducting laboratory experiments and managing classroom safety is beneficial.
• Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of scientific concepts and middle school science curriculum standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Effective classroom management skills to create a positive and orderly learning environment.
